Ok, this is not something that will arrive in vSphere 6.0 U1, but it will come in 2016 together with the next major version. But finally there will be a form of HA thanks to a active/passive configuration, where two vCenter servers will be connected together without having a shared storage for the quorum. Also the PSC component will have HA capabilities without requiring an external load balancer. It will not be a cloudnative-scale-out-active-active-nosql-html5 sort of solution, but nonetheless we will have a solution that is no more a single point of failure. Virtual SAN is VMware’s software-defined storage solution, built from the ground up for vSphere virtual machines. It abstracts and aggregates locally attached disks in a vSphere cluster to create a storage solution that can be provisioned and managed from vCenter and the vSphere Web Client.

  • This tool enables IT to rapidly create a software-defined data center built on NSX, VSAN, vSphere 6, and vRealize.
  • Once again I think this one points back to underlying existing reliability issues with storage which VVols isn’t going to solve and customers unwilling to deploy VVols until they fix reliability issues.
  • If anyone doubted it, VMware is not only king of the virtualized data center, it also has a huge gravitational pull that brings many other technology vendors into its orbit.
  • The size of these .zip files varies from around 250MB – 500MB depending on if it has video or not .
  • For remote office use, VSAN can be scaled down to two nodes, mirroring storage between the nodes for availability while being managed by a central, home office vCenter instance.

It uses storage policies to assign storage services to specific VMs. It then automatically tunes and rebalances storage to ensure that the VM storage SLAs stay compliant with the policies throughout the lifecycle of the VM. We’re going to take through a very quick overview of VMware’s Hyperconverged Infrastructure of HCI, Virtual SAN+vSphere on certified hardware, and the key cost drivers when building a building case a business case for HCI & VSAN.

StarWind CEO Anton Kolomeytsev attended Gartner Data Center, Infrastructure & Operations Management Conference, an important annual event, which covers data center infrastructure issues and has been shaping the industry for over 35 years. The conference gathers leading technology and service providers, who represent their innovations to help the I&O leaders keep up to speed on reinvention of the data center, infrastructure and operations. In this session we will look at the unique capabilities provided by Pure Storage vVols for database management. We will then look at a solution from Scalegrid that leverages vVol capabilities to provide cloud like DBaaS for hybrid clouds.

This tool enables IT to rapidly create a software-defined data center built on NSX, VSAN, vSphere 6, and vRealize. EVO is built to scale to a whole data center, beginning with eight nodes. EVO SDDC Manager has some other features as well, including the concept of “workload domains,” where you can sequester certain types of workloads to certain types of hardware and certain locations, behind specialized NSX firewall rules as well. EVO SDDC Manager also automates the lifecycle operations of IT infrastructure, managing patching, deployment, and decommissioning of hardware, as we’ve all come to expect from a hyperconverged platform.

The big VMware news was that the company was acquired by EMC Corp. in the same year. Suffice it to say that VMworld has changed a great deal over the years, and is now firmly entrenched as thego-to show for IT infrastructure, the one don’t-miss event for those interested in the underpinnings of the modern datacenter. Another major category at the show this year was backup or copy data managementwhich is a complex name that I think will struggle to resonate with customers. New companies in the space include Rubrik, Datto and Cohesity, while industry veteran Commvault had a significant presence at the show sporting a shiny new logo.

Estonian ICT Week unifies numerous conferences, seminars, hackathons, discussions dedicated to IT innovations and, particularly, IT legal aspects and e-governance. ICT experts, visionaries, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, government leaders and top officials as well as representatives of international organizations came to Tallinn to share experience and network. StarWind attended TECHunplugged conference in Amsterdam on the 6th of October.

  • It is also home to the HOL Command Center, presenting a live vRealize Operations dashboard of the current lab environment and an interactive presentation of lab facts.
  • I always enjoyed watching Mr. Sloof in action at VMworld recording video footage and interviews all over the event and producing daily wrap-up videos, so it was disappointing that VMware didn’t bring them to the US event this year.
  • I think a nice side effect of VMworld going back to Vegas is that more people will likely attend as it’s much more affordable and accessible than San Francisco is especially without the insane hotel prices.
  • StarWind, an experienced provider of hyper-convergence solutions for SMB and ROBO, presents its vision on what it takes to make a simple, flexible, and performing hyperconverged infrastructure.

Prices for the show ranged from an early-bird price of $1,495 to an on-site rate of $1,895. The number of vendors coming to the event was growing, as well; one media report said that at least 80 vendors were there. Another example of the growth can be seen by walking the exhibit floor of VMworld. Bring comfortable shoes, because it can take hours to get nothing more than a cursory glance at every booth. If you hopped in a time machine and went back to the very first VMworld, you wouldn’t have been bumping elbows with people on the escalators, or scrambling to find an empty chair for the opening keynote.

VMware public cloud gets vCloud Air SQL, Site Recovery Manager Air, object storage

46% said cost – I sure hope these people know that VVols isn’t a product or feature that you have to license, it’s a new storage architecture that is built into vSphere and is included in all editions. Other than that the only reasons I can think of that someone would say cost is if they have to pay to upgrade to vSphere 6 or buy storage that supports VVols. I managed to sneak in a breakout session or two amongst a multitude of customer How Long Does it Take to Learn Python 2022 Guide briefings and prowling the Expo floor to see some of the shiny new things from the ecosystem. It was certainly an exciting event and a great introduction to the excitement and passion surrounding VMware. One of the few downsides to last years events was that I missed a lot of the after-hours activities due to the commute back to San Jose every evening. Compare that with last year’s show, which set a new attendance record at 23,000.

Delivered by Solutions Architects with real world experience, Virtual Livefire Solutions provides a cost-effective method to assist with selling, designing and delivering VMware solutions. Once you are verified it will bring up the sessions list which you can select by track or search for sessions. If you select the option to download it a packaged download is created in .zip file format which contains the .mp4 video file of the session along with other files to support standalone playback of the sessions in a browser. VVols aren’t really any less or more reliable than VMFS and there really haven’t been any major issues that I’ve seen related to implementing them. Once again I think this one points back to underlying existing reliability issues with storage which VVols isn’t going to solve and customers unwilling to deploy VVols until they fix reliability issues.

So please let me know via Twitter (@lessi001) or in the comments if you know about a gathering or organize one. VSAN is high performance, scalable and resilient… and runs on heterogeneous hardware. Incumbent companies who don’t quickly add two-factor authentication to their products will be left behind. While the perfect color palette or the most sublime button shading or myriad of other design features play an important role in any product’s success, user interface design is not enough. Customer engagement and retention requires a strategic plan that attempts to measure, quantify and ultimately create a complete satisfying user experience on both an …

They include vSphere, Virtual SAN, NSX, and vRealize Operations, according to a statement VMware issued today at its big VMworld conference in San Francisco. Startup ClusterHQ today announced that it has teamed up with VMware to develop a storage driver that allows ClusterHQ’s Flocker open-source software to integrate with VMware’s vSphere server virtualization software. Other companies interested in riding the wave of attention this week have made announcements, too.

Held in San Diego, Calif., the initial celebration of all things VMware had a grand total of 1,500 attendees. I was personally very gratified to hear a lot of talk about IT teams understanding more of the developer perspective, which was reinforced by the heavily app-centric keynote on the first day. The developer revolution is here to stay, and is gaining momentum within the normally staid hallways of enterprise IT.
